Len welcomed everybody and introduced Joe Greaser, Unit Commissioner for Pack 57, and Nancy McGuire, who joined our Commissioner staff.
Jae played a short exerpt from a tape on Character Matters, for the opening..
Len payed tribute to Worley Knowles, who died the week before. He was a great man and Scouter.
Commissioner Training Topic. Ken talked about the new recharter time for our district. It is a new concept. Our month is December. This is done for the Council benefit, it gives them a greater picture at the beginning of the year. Charters have to be sent in by December 15th. Len said he gave out all charters for units that need to recharter this year. In December there will be a meeting with all unit leaders and Unit Commissioners for the purpose of getting all paperwork ready for rechartering.
REPORTS
Scouts. November 2 is district training day. Only one person has signed up so far. Pitt District will help teaching. Len wants to know if Dan can find out who is trained in the district. The recharter package has a column with Trained and Untrained, but somehow it gets overlooked or is not correct. JOTA will be held at the Community College in conjunction with Pow Wow on October 20th. Any Scout, Cub or Boy Scout are welcome to participate. The New Bern Radio Club is very enthusiastic about it.
Cub Scouts. Pow Wow is October 20 from 9:00 – 4:30. Elizabeth is working hard on the Family Campout.
October 13 and 14 is Venturing and Sea Scout leader training at the college.
ADC Schools. All classrooms in the Neuse Basin District have been visited. Our goal was 248, so far we got 216, short of our goal for Cub Scouts this year. Learning for Life. Twenty-two classrooms were visited and about 200 were signed up. A survey was handed out to High School students concerning interest in Explorer Posts. 150 were returned, which is pretty good. October 17 is Handicapped Scouting Day at the High School. There will be face painting, Indian dancing, and animal tracks. We still need people. Jae will do story telling and Ken and Len will cook. Ken, Len, Jimmy Shine and Brian will be there early to set up.
Boy Scout Roundtable. Ken is still looking for a replacement. Attendance is lousy. At the last meeting we had a pig picking. If anyone has an idea how to get people to go to R.T. let Ken know.
Cub Roundtable. At the last roundtable, the pig picking event, we had a good number of people to show up. We’ll see how many come back.
RTC Venturing. No report.
Unit Health. United Methodist Church in Bridgeton agreed to sponsor Pack 5510. Nobody has any Scouting experience. Pack 50 signed up 15 new boys at Roundup. There is no news from Pack 231. Jae will find out what is going on.
District Commissioner Report. Len gave Troop 13’s charter to Dan to deliver.
Joe Greaser talked about the Eagle Scholarship from the American Legion. The Commander gave Ken an application but the deadline was October 15, too late for this year. There is a Legion Post in Trenton and in New Bern.
D.E. Report. Brian said it is our job to make people understand that they need training. Ken said if we can get them to come to Roundtable we could hold some training sessions during R.T.
Announcements. The next meeting will be November 6th. Ken will have the opening, Jimmy Shine the closing and Nancy McGuire will bring refreshments. Len will have the training topic
Closing. Len led everyone in the Scoutmaster’s Benediction.
Respectfully submitted
