Ken presided in the absence of Len Long and welcomed everyone present.

Darlene read a poem called "Dash" for the opening.

The topic of the training was Camporee. Ken reported that we had a good turnout and even though it rained all weekend the kids enjoyed it. Attendance was up from last year but is still not what it should be.

REPORTS

ADC Cub Scouts. Jae talked about the family campout at Camp Bonner North. They had only four Packs (50, 494, 299, and 57). The theme was Happy Days, and they could play without the stress of competing all weekend. Also, they were allowed to fish at Camp Hannah Bonner.

Venturing. Starting Friday, May 24th there will be a five day Powder Horn training course at Occoneechee Council. Ken will attend.

ADC Schools. Jimmy reported on the Field Day. There were not as many kids there as expected because some of them had tests. They had the firehouse clown, and an Indian, plus cooking and games.

RTC Boy Scouts. Dan only had one Boy Scout leader there. He used to have a program on knot tying but the leaders don’t want to do it. No RT in June and July.

RTC Cub Scouts. Darlene also had only one person there. Between the Boy Scout and Cub Roundtable there were a total of six people, including the DE and Activity Chairman from WORD.

Darlene thought it would be a good idea to make video pictures of the boys in action during Day Camp and show it during Roundup in the fall. New kids might like what they see and want to join. It could also be put on a web site.

Unit Health. Darlene reported that Pack 5510 is doing really good. Nancy McGuire is the Cubmaster. Pack 442 changed sponsors and are now sponsored by Unity Christian Church.

District Commissioners Report. We lost a commissioner. Carlton Johnson died. Bob West recruited one in Trenton.

Announcements. Pack 67 will place chairs at the National Cemetery for Memorial Day service, and Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts will place flags on the graves. Lowe’s has a program where once a month a group can go there and sell hot dogs. All the food is provided by Lowe’s, the Group serving will provide the drinks. But all the money will go to the unit or whoever is doing it. This would be a good moneymaker for some unit. The next District meeting will be June 11, Commissioners meeting June 18. Next Cub Roundtalbe will be a 5:30 at Grover C. Fields School during Twilight Camp. Next month Dan will have the opening, Ron Cherry the closing, and Jae will take care of refreshments.

Closing. Ken read a parable "Shake it off and step up", the manner in which you handle your adversities.

Respectfully submitted

Agnes McCain
