NEUSE BASIN COMMISSIONER MEETING

JUNE 2002

The monthly Commissioner meeting was held at 7:00, June 18, at Faith Youth Ministry Building with the following attending:

1.      Len welcomed everybody present, and Bob West introduced Ed Foscue and Douglas Williams from Trenton.  Ed is considering becoming a commissioner.  Len welcomed both of them.

2.      For the opening Dan read “Scouting Is”.

3.      Ken went for a weeklong Powderhorn course, learning about Venturing.  Len passed out Commissioner registration cards.

4.      Commissioner Training Topic.  Linda Hill is the new activities chairperson.  She went to all schools in the last two weeks, including Jones and Pamlico Counties.  We want to get all roundup done during August.  Children who sign up will be registered through December 31.  The Learning for Life units will go from September to September.  Rescue 20 is doing something but Len has not yet seen any paperwork on it.  We had Twilight Camp last week with 35 boys.  Len had passouts for summer camp.  Any Commissioner interested working at summer camp, there are still openings.

5.      REPORTS

  1. Bob West is the new ADC for Boy Scouts.
  2. ADC Cub Scouts.  Jae hopes many Packs take advantage of the weekend at Camp Bonner for Jungle Tales.  Family campout is the first weekend in October.  Croatan Trails is having a family campout at Camp Hatcher.  Pack 231 at Core Creek has a new Pastor, Mike Barnhill, who is a friend of Jae’s, and seems to be interested in Scouting.
  3. RTC Boy Scouts.  There will be no Roundtable in July.  Dan wants to teach knots but does not get much of a response.  Next  Roundtable will be in August.  Len submitted a budget of $30.00 a month for Roundtable.
  4. RTC Cub Scouts.  Darlene had seven people present.  She called Council for some books she needs in August but only got the run-around.  September 21 is Bike Rodeo.  October 4-6 is Family Campout.
  5. Training.  January 11 in Pitt County University of Scouting.  This is Council Training Day.  Everything is combined but it is NOT Commissioner College.  August 27-29 is troop committee training.  September 21 Boy Scout fundamental Training.  Dan sent out a list of training dates.

6.      Unit Health.  Troop 132 is back up to 26 boys.  They are in camp this week.  The application for Troop 684 is still not finished.  Pack 111 has new Cubmasters – Brenda Banks and Diane Brill.  Pack 67 has a new Cubmaster.  Pack 299 has a new Cubmaster, John Eubanks.

7.      District Commissioners Report.  We have a new Commissioner.  Bob West gave him the training tapes.

 8.  Announcements.  Due to Len going to Philmont, the next Commissioners meeting has been changed to the 4th Tuesday in July, July 21.  Ken will have the opening, Bob West the closing and Jimmy Shine the refreshments.  The Commissioner training topic will be Extravaganza, taught by Darlene.

     Ron closed the meeting with prayer.
