Ken read “Things to Ponder for 2001”.
2.
Welcome.
Len welcomed those present. Jimmy
Shine presented the Training Award and Commissioner Key to Jae Logan and the
Arrowhead Honor to Jimmy Brinkley.
3.
Unit
Health. Ken will go to Council and
pre-register Troop 494 Scouts for Camporee as soon as he finds out how many are
going. Troop 67 is trying to find
another sponsor. The VFW provides a
good meeting place and has done well in the past, but they seem to have lost
interest. Venture – Steve
didn’t get to West Craven. He
would like a venture unit for Eagles. Jae
needs to focus on day camp. Dan had
no luck getting in touch with the Girl Scout Leader about helping
to put flags at the National Cemetery.
Jimmy Shine reported no activity since the last time.
Two Learning for Life charters have been picked up from Pamlico County.
All school units will recharter after school starts.
4.
PROGRAM
(a)
Budget. Len said go ahead
with what was said last time.
(b)
Scout Show. Steve went to
the meeting. It is coming together.
We will have three tables. Commissioners
need to be part of it to help set up and tear down.
Ken, Len, Jimmy Shine, Steve have volunteered.
Darlene can help in the morning. Len
will put out an agenda for each meeting.
(c)
Summer Camp. Seven units
from this district have signed up. The
camp has 25
new Sunfish sailboats.
(d)
Camporee. Mike will contact
Council to find out how many units are going.
Dan, Jimmy Shine and Jimmy Brinkley will help out Blue Area.
Both Jimmies will do uniform inspection.
(e)
Len, Ken, Jimmy Shine and Agnes went to the Commissioner Cabinet meeting.
The Commissioners want to do something about rechartering time.
They would like for everyone to recharter at the same time.
Exceptions are Learning for Life children. Our district will sponsor the June Cabinet meeting, which
will take place at Camp Bonner. The
next meeting is April 11th in Greenville.
5.
Scout
Roundtable. We are still looking
for a Roundtable Commissioner. There
were
Eight people present,
including district people. Troops
299, 97, 58, and 442 were represented. The theme was cultural awareness. The theme for the next meeting is Wild Life Management.
6.
Cub
Roundtable. Darlene puts out the
Commissioners Newsletter. She needs
feed-
back about activities. They
had about 15 people at Roundtable, representing six
Packs. So far three Packs
are going to the District Campout. Comments
about the campout were
that it was too structured, not enough free time.
Len needs a list of what is needed for crafts.
7.
Day Camp
is still on schedule. It will be
held either a t Ben Quinn or Grover C.
Fields. The
theme is Wild Wild West. At
Roundtable there will be sign-up sheets for Day Camp and Resident Camp.
8.
Training.
Dan wants to come in and give a presentation about the new training
program. A new training
manual is out with a lot of
changes. At the next meeting Dan
will will give an update of changes in training.
9.
Handouts
and Announcements. Len handed out a
paper on Boy Scouts of America
Traditional Values and Standards (Provided to “60
Minutes”) He also gave each
Commissioner a folder with everything needed for Commissioner service.
The next meeting will be May 1st.
Darlene will have the opening, Steve the closing
and Bill Dittman refreshments.
10.
Closing.
Mike said everyone was doing a great job.
Len has great ideas about the
New folders. He
closed with two sentences, which he gets in the e-mail from Dan, Scouting is for
America, Scouting is for the Boys.
Respectfully Submitted
